Mental health awareness

In looking after our mental health it's important to have #mentalhealthawareness I'm sharing ways that we can look after our own mental health and those that we love around us. Connection Its really important that we check in on each other, even if its just a quick call to say hello and I'm thinking of you. The meaning this can have on us and our loved ones is immeasurable. Take the time to listen and show that we care. There is nothing like the feeling of connection we have when talking to someone about how were feeling or indeed finding ways to help other people, which can all help to stop the feelings of loneliness which improves not only mental health but wellbeing. Thoughts & Reframing The way we think, feel and behave are linked. Sometimes we develop patterns of thoughts or behaviours that are unhelpful so recognising them, and taking steps to think about things differently. Challenge your thoughts and start to break unhelpful cycles. Be in the Present If we take time to be aware of ourselves and be in the present moment, noticing our own thoughts and feelings, and the world around us, we can gain a better perspective. Sometimes this is known as being more mindful. Mindfulness and meditation help to be in the present. Get Good Sleep Good-quality sleep makes a big difference to how we feel mentally and physically, so it's important to get enough. If you can, cut down on caffeine and alcohol before bedtime which helps to get us off to a good nights sleep. Live a Healthy Life Being active, enjoying the outdoors and having a healthy, balanced diet all impact on how we feel. Re think habits. Quit smoking, cut down on alcohol and getting active all have a positive impact on our mood. Do what you love/Learn a hobby From enjoying your favourite hobby, learning something new or simply taking time to relax, it's important to do things that make you happy. Setting goals and learning new skills can be a great way to meet people, build your self-esteem and feel a sense of achievement.

Looking after our mental health is not only good for us now, it can also help us deal with and manage difficult times in the future. It may also reduce our risk of physical health problems. Please do take care of your mental health and wellbeing every day. Lisa Burdett Coaching & Counselling - www.lisaburdett.co.uk #lookafteryourself #bekind #lookingoutforeachother
